A Great Passion for Animals

Tolerance Pixar style

Mary, a curious seven-year-old, discovers the wonders of nature in her garden, but she can't understand why the animals behave the way they do. She wants to learn, she faces obstacles and moments of doubt but finally finds a way to connect with her animal friends, giving us an important lesson in tolerance and understanding.

The garden behind the house hid its own secrets: nests, tunnels into the ground, anthills, and ponds. Nature always offered surprises! One day, a young hedgehog crossed our gate. The little hedgehog didn’t have a name, so we called him Dickie and fed him milk and fresh eggs.

The hedgehog ate with great appetite until one day, we discovered he had gone away.

I started thinking about how many animals were living around us: fireflies in the summer evenings, snails in the garden, and ants marching around tirelessly. I observed them and realized how fascinating these creatures were.

One morning, I discovered a beautiful collection of snail shells, all different in size. In my enthusiasm, I filled a jar with snails, taking care of them by giving them lettuce leaves.

However, one day, I noticed that some of the snails were no longer moving. I decided to free them: I opened the jar and let them crawl away. It was the right choice, I gave them their freedom.

My greatest curiosity came when I observed tadpoles in the small pond. Watching their tiny tails wagging and how they transformed into frogs was an unforgettable experience.

My love for observing animals led me to invent games, imagine stories, and ultimately dream of becoming a scientist who could study and protect all these amazing creatures in real life.

Mary spent the next few days sitting silently in the garden, allowing the animals to come and go as they pleased. Slowly, she began to notice patterns and behaviors she hadn't seen before. "I see now!" she whispered excitedly as she watched the ants work together.

Mary shared her findings with her family. "I learned that animals have their own ways of living, and we can understand them if we're patient," she said proudly.

Mary's experience teaches us that understanding and tolerance are important in connecting with others, whether they're people or animals. She continued to observe and learn, dreaming of one day becoming a scientist. She felt grateful for the wisdom she gained.
