A Link to The Whole

Wisdom Digital art style

Raven, a new student at McKinley Elementary School, feels isolated and troubled by the lack of care and inclusivity among students. He believes the school can be amazing if everyone works together. Raven sets out to unite his peers through a colorful chain of promises, teaching the lesson of wisdom and collective effort.

Raven had just started at McKinley Elementary School in Burlingame, California. They had heard so much about the school, they quickly realized things weren't as perfect as they imagined. Some students didn't include everyone in their games, while others littered and didn't take care of the school. Raven felt lonely and sad, wondering why their new school was like this.

One day, Raven tried to join a group playing tag, but they ignored him. He felt even more isolated. During lunch, he saw students throwing trash everywhere instead of recycling. Raven thought, 'This school could be so much better if we all worked together.' But he didn't know how to start.

Raven decided to talk to other students who seemed alone, but many were too shy or scared to change anything. He tried picking up trash and recycling, but some kids laughed at him. Raven felt his efforts were useless. "Why won't they listen? Why won't they try and help, too?" He thought sadly.

Raven felt like giving up. He sat alone on a bench, tears welling up in his eyes. "Maybe I'm too small to make a difference," he sighed. Just then, Mrs. Harper, the school counselor, sat next to him. "What's wrong, Raven?" she asked gently.

Mrs. Harper listened to Raven's worries and then smiled. "You have a big heart, Raven. Let's create something that can unite everyone." They brainstormed and decided to build a paper chain. Each strip of paper would represent a promise to make the school better. Raven felt hopeful again and he smiled, knowing things would change.

Raven and Mrs. Harper started by making a few links themselves. Soon, other students got curious and joined in. They added their own promises: 'recycling after lunch,' 'asking everyone to play,' and more. The chain grew and grew. By the end, the entire school had participated, including the teachers and principal. Raven felt proud and happy. Together, they had made McKinley Elementary a better place.
