Ruby was so excited to visit the zoo with her Mum. They were going to see animals, big and small. But Ruby had a big question in her mind. Why doesn't the wise old owl hoot anymore? Ruby really wanted to know. She felt like the owl was sad.
Ruby and Mum walked to the owl's enclosure. The owl just sat quietly on the branch. Ruby asked her Mum, - Why is the owl so quiet? Ruby wanted to hear the owl hoot. But the owl just blinked its big eyes.
Ruby tried making hoot sounds herself. - Hoot, hoot! she called. But the owl didn't respond. Ruby felt disappointed. They moved on to see the monkeys, but Ruby kept thinking about the owl.
Ruby sat on a bench, feeling sad. - I don't think I'll ever know why the owl won't hoot, she said. Mum hugged her and said, - Sometimes we need to be patient and think. Ruby sighed and looked around.
Mum suggested they visit the wise giraffe. The giraffe stretched its long neck and whispered, - Wisdom comes with listening and thinking. Ruby smiled, realizing she needed to listen to the owl.
