In the cozy town of Maplewood, there lived an 8-year-old boy named Charlie. Charlie had short sandy blonde hair and was always seen wearing a pumpkin costume. He wore it not just for Halloween, but all year round. Charlie was afraid of many things. His biggest fear was speaking up in class, and it made him very sad.

One crisp autumn day, Charlie's teacher announced a class play. 'Everyone will have a speaking part,' she said. Charlie's heart raced. ' - I can't do it, he whispered to his best friend Emma. ' - You can, Charlie! I'll help you practice, she encouraged.

They practiced every day after school. But when Charlie tried to speak, his voice would shake. ' - Maybe I'm just not brave enough, Charlie sighed. ' - Don't give up, Emma insisted. ' - We'll keep trying together.

The night before the play, Charlie felt even more scared. He imagined everyone laughing at him. ' - I can't go on stage! he cried to his mom. ' - You can, sweetie. Remember, courage isn't about not being scared. It's about doing it anyway, she said, hugging him.

On the day of the play, Charlie stood behind the curtain, trembling. ' - What if I mess up? he asked Emma. ' - I'll be right here beside you, she reassured. The curtains opened, and Charlie's legs felt like jelly. He almost ran off the stage.

Just as Charlie was about to give up, he saw Emma smiling at him from the wings. ' - You can do this, she mouthed. Charlie took a deep breath. ' - For Emma, he thought. He stepped forward, but his mind went blank.

Suddenly, Charlie remembered his mom's words. ' - Courage is doing it anyway. He started his lines slowly. At first, his voice wavered, but then it grew stronger. The audience was silent, listening intently.

By the end of the play, Charlie was beaming. The audience erupted in applause. ' - I did it! Charlie exclaimed backstage. ' - I knew you could, Emma smiled. Charlie realized he didn't need his pumpkin costume to be brave. He had courage all along.
