Dean the Dragon and the Flower

Tolerance Watercolor style

Dean, a teal-skinned dragon on the island of Oak, embarks on a mission to guard a rare flower that blooms once every 100 years. Despite his inability to fly or run fast, Dean's persistence teaches the island dragons the value of tolerance and hidden talents.

Once upon a time, on the island of Oak, there lived a teal-skinned dragon named Dean. Dean was not like the other dragons; he couldn't fly or run fast. Instead, he spent his days watching the other dragons fly and race. Dean often wondered, 'What is my special dragon power?'

One day, the mayor of Dragon Island made an important announcement. 'The Flower that blooms once every 100 years is about to bloom!' The island dragons gasped in excitement.

- We need a dragon to watch the flower and alert the island when it begins to bloom. It will only flower for 5 minutes, then turn brown for another 100 years. The fastest flying dragon volunteered. 'I'll do it!' he said.

A few hours later, the fastest flying dragon got bored. ' - I can't just sit here; I need to stretch my wings,' he said. He took off for a quick lap around the island, thinking no one would notice.

The mayor decided to check on the dragon. ' - Where is that dragon?!' he exclaimed. Just then, the dragon returned, but the mayor was furious. ' - You're fired!' he yelled.

The mayor called another emergency meeting. ' - We need another volunteer to watch the flower,' he announced. The fastest runner stepped forward. ' - I can't fly, so no need to worry about joy flights. I'll do it!' he said.

A few hours later, the fastest running dragon got bored. ' - I can't just sit here; I need to stretch my legs,' he said. He took off for a quick run around the island, thinking no one would notice.

The mayor decided to check on the dragon. ' - Where is that dragon?!' he exclaimed. Just then, the dragon returned, but the mayor was furious. ' - You're fired!' he yelled.

The mayor called yet another emergency meeting. ' - We need another volunteer to watch the flower,' he announced. Dean raised his wing. ' - I will do it,' he said. The island dragons gasped.

- You? You're the slowest dragon on the island, and you can't even fly,' the mayor said. ' - But I'll stay and watch the flower,' Dean replied. The mayor thought for a moment. ' - Well, you got the job,' he finally said.

A few hours later, the mayor decided to check on Dean. To his delight, Dean was still sitting there, watching the flower pod. ' - You never left?' the mayor asked. Dean shook his head no.

The mayor checked again a few hours later. ' - You never left? Not even for lunch?' Dean shook his head no. ' - Excellent work, Dean,' the mayor said with a smile.

Suddenly, there was a loud CRACK. ' - The flower is blooming!' Dean yelled. Dean unleashed his special power, shouting as loud as 100 jet planes. ' - THE FLOWER IS BLOOMING!' he roared.

The whole island rushed to see the flower. It was more beautiful than they could have imagined. Dean was a hero and received a medal of honor. The mayor and the island dragons learned that every dragon has a special power, even if it's not obvious right away.
