Do the Sneakers Fit You? (by Cecelo Serrano)

Charity Watercolor style

Sam, a 13-year-old with a big heart, faces the challenge of finding the right person to give a new pair of sneakers to. As he navigates the bustling city, he learns important lessons about empathy and charity. But when obstacles arise, will Sam find the courage to make a difference?

Sam woke up on his 13th birthday to find two shiny new pairs of sneakers waiting for him. He already had two pairs and realized he didn't need them all. "- I should give one pair to someone who needs it," Sam thought, looking out his window at the bustling city below. But who would that be? The city was vast, and finding someone who truly needed the sneakers seemed daunting.

Sam decided to carry the sneakers in his backpack as he walked to school, hoping to spot someone in need. On the way, he saw many people hurrying past, but no one seemed to need new shoes. "- Maybe this was a bad idea," Sam muttered, feeling a bit discouraged. He stopped by the park but only saw children playing. Would he find the right person before school?

As Sam continued his search, he noticed a group of homeless people near an old library. "- Do you think any of them might need these sneakers?" Sam wondered aloud. But upon approaching, he noticed they were all adults wearing shoes. "- I guess these aren't for them," Sam sighed, feeling his confidence waver.

Just as Sam was about to give up, he heard a voice call out. "- Hey, what time is it?" He turned to see a young girl, barefoot and sitting on a bench. Her feet were dirty, and the sight tugged at Sam's heart. "- Could this be it?" he thought, excitement and hope bubbling inside him.

Sam approached the girl, kneeling down to talk to her. "- Do you need some shoes? I have a pair that might fit you," he offered gently. The girl's eyes widened in surprise and delight. "- Really? That would be amazing!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up with joy.

But doubt crept in as Sam wondered if the sneakers would even fit her. "- What if they're too big or too small?" he fretted. The girl tried them on, and to their surprise, they fit perfectly! "- They're just right!" she laughed, her eyes sparkling with gratitude.

Sam felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over him. "- I'm glad they fit," he said, smiling. The girl beamed back, saying, "- Thank you so much!" He waved goodbye, his heart full of joy. After a few steps, Sam turned and asked her name. The girl answered: "- My name's Cinderella!" Sam chuckled in surprise at the coincidence and said: "- Take care, Cinderella, see you!"

Walking back to school, Sam felt proud and fulfilled. He realized that empathy and charity could make a real difference, even in a big city. "- I should do this more often," he thought with a warm smile. The sneakers had found their perfect home, and Sam had learned a valuable lesson. "- Helping others feels pretty great," he concluded, his heart light as a feather. Sam was not only surprised and impressed by the coincidence of Cinderella's name, but also, he suddenly realized, by her beauty. But that is another story.
