Evangelina and her family were excited to visit the Saint Louis Zoo. They packed snacks and water in Evangelina's pink backpack. Evangelina couldn't wait to see the animals. But when they arrived, they found out that some animals were missing! Everyone was worried. Where could the animals have gone?
Evangelina's dad, Pedro, spoke to the zookeeper. The zookeeper explained that some animals were moved because their enclosures were being fixed. Evangelina felt sad. - Will we see the lions? Evangelina asked. - We will have to find out, said Mom.
They started their zoo adventure, hopeful to see the animals. First, they went to see the elephants. But the elephant enclosure was empty! - Where are the elephants? PJ asked. - Let's keep looking, said Dad. Evangelina felt worried.
Next, they walked to the monkey area. The monkeys were not there either! - This is no fun, said Esther Grace. - We have to stay positive, Dad encouraged. Evangelina looked around, hoping to see some animals.
As they walked to the lion's den, Evangelina's heart raced. But the lions were not there too! - What is happening? asked Haiden. - This is so unfair, said Evangelina. Everyone felt a bit sad and frustrated.
Evangelina and her family sat down to rest and eat snacks. - Maybe we should go home, said PJ. - But I really want to see the animals, said Evangelina. - Let's not give up yet, said Mom. They decided to try one more time.
They heard a noise and followed it. It led them to the birdhouse. Finally, they saw some beautiful birds! - Look at the colorful feathers! said Esther Grace. - This is amazing, said Dad. Evangelina smiled.
Feeling hopeful, they went to the reptile house next. They saw snakes, lizards, and turtles. - Look at the big snake! said Haiden. - Wow, it's so long, said PJ. Evangelina was fascinated by the reptiles.
But Evangelina still wanted to see the big animals. - Let's check the giraffes, said Mom. When they reached the giraffe enclosure, it was empty too. - Not again, said Esther Grace. Evangelina felt like giving up.
Evangelina sat down and sighed. - Maybe we won't see the animals today, she said. - It's not fair, said PJ. - Sometimes things don't go as planned, said Dad. Evangelina felt like crying.
Just then, a wise old zoo volunteer approached them. - Why are you so sad? he asked. - We can't see the animals, said Evangelina. - Follow me, the volunteer said. Evangelina felt a spark of hope.
The volunteer led them to a special area. - These animals needed quiet while their homes are fixed, he explained. - But you can see them here. Evangelina saw the lions, elephants, and giraffes! - This is amazing! she said.
