Feathers Never Forget

Gretta, a young pink flamingo, lived on Feather Island with her family. One day, her Grandmother Grace told her, 'Feathers never forget, my dear.' Gretta was puzzled. 'What does that mean, Grandma?' she asked. Grandmother Grace explained, 'It means our feathers hold the stories of our family, but you must remember them.' Gretta wanted to learn all the stories, but she didn’t know how.

Gretta decided to gather the stories from her family members. She first went to her uncle, but he was busy. ' - Uncle, can you tell me a story?' Gretta asked. ' - Not now, Gretta, I’m fishing,' he replied. Gretta felt sad. She wondered how she would collect the stories if everyone was too busy.

Gretta then went to her cousin, who was playing with friends. ' - Can you tell me a family story?' Gretta asked. ' - Later, Gretta, we’re in the middle of a game,' her cousin said. Gretta felt even more discouraged. She thought, 'How will I ever learn the stories if no one has time?'

Gretta felt like giving up. She sat under a tree, tears in her eyes. ' - I can’t do this, Grandma,' she said when Grandmother Grace came to her. ' - Sometimes, finding wisdom takes patience, my dear,' her grandmother comforted her. Gretta sighed, 'But it’s so hard.'

Grandmother Grace smiled and handed Gretta a beautiful feather. ' - This feather holds a special story. Listen closely, and you’ll hear it,' she said. Gretta held the feather and closed her eyes. Suddenly, she heard a soft whisper of a story about her great-grandfather. ' - I can hear it, Grandma!' Gretta exclaimed.

Gretta realized she could learn the stories by listening to the feathers. She shared this with her family, and they all gathered to share their stories. ' - Feathers never forget,' Gretta told them.
