As she imagines adventures with her stone companion, Gwendolyn discovers that the gargoyle holds a mystery. When a new family moves into the neighboring Victorian house, Gwendolyn learns a valuable lesson about charity and friendship. Will Gwendolyn solve the mystery and find a real friend?

In Salem, Massachusetts, Gwendolyn and her family moved into a charming old house. Next door was a rundown Victorian home with a peculiar gargoyle perched on a pedestal. Gwendolyn loved to play in the yard, imagining the gargoyle as her friend. However, she noticed the gargoyle always seemed sad, as if it had a secret. " - I wonder what you're hiding," Gwendolyn mused.

One day, while playing, Gwendolyn noticed a small, locked box beneath the gargoyle. She tried to open it but it wouldn't budge. " - I bet there's a treasure inside!" Gwendolyn exclaimed. She tugged and pulled, but the lock remained firm. " - Maybe I need a key," she thought, feeling determined.

Gwendolyn searched everywhere for a key, but with no luck. She even asked her parents. " - Have you seen a small key?" Gwendolyn inquired. Her parents shook their heads, busy unpacking. Each day, she felt more desperate to unlock the box. " - Why is this so hard?" she sighed.

After days of searching, Gwendolyn felt defeated. " - Maybe I'm just imagining things," she said to the gargoyle. She sat beside it, feeling glum and ready to give up. " - I thought we were meant to solve this together," she whispered. Her imaginary friend remained silent, offering no answers.

One afternoon, Gwendolyn noticed the new neighbors moving into the Victorian house. A friendly boy waved from the window. " - Hi, I'm Ben," he called out. Gwendolyn felt a spark of hope. " - Maybe he can help," she thought, rushing to introduce herself and share the mystery of the gargoyle.

Together, Gwendolyn and Ben examined the gargoyle. " - Look! There's something under its wing!" Ben exclaimed, pulling out a small, golden key. Gwendolyn's heart raced with excitement. With trembling hands, she unlocked the box and found a note inside. The note revealed that the gargoyle was a symbol of friendship. " - I guess I found a real friend after all," Gwendolyn smiled, looking at Ben.
