Is My No Enough?

Justice Watercolor style

Tessa, a spirited 14-year-old, attends a party that's supposed to be fun but quickly turns challenging. Navigating peer pressure and standing firm on her boundaries, she learns the true value of justice and consent. Will she find her voice amidst the chaos?

Tessa arrived at Kevin's birthday party ready for a night of fun. As the music blared and laughter filled the room, she noticed something unsettling. Kevin was pressuring everyone to participate in a game she wasn't comfortable with. Tessa felt her heart race as she realized saying "no" might not be enough. She wondered, "Is my no enough to stop this?"

Tessa hesitated as Kevin approached her with a mischievous grin. " - C'mon, Tessa, it's just a silly game," he insisted, handing her a blindfold. Her mind raced, searching for words to refuse politely. But Kevin ignored her protests, and the crowd's eyes turned towards her. Tessa felt trapped, her voice drowned out by peer pressure.

Determined, Tessa tried to slip away, but the crowd seemed to close in. " - Don't be a party pooper," a girl teased, nudging her forward. Tessa's frustration grew as she realized none of her friends were listening. " - Why won't they just let me be?" she thought, feeling the weight of their expectations. It seemed no one understood her need for consent.

Exhausted and feeling defeated, Tessa found a quiet corner. " - Maybe I should just leave," she whispered to herself. The party continued without her, laughter and music fading into background noise. She felt invisible, her earlier anger now replaced by resignation. Tessa wondered if standing up for herself was worth the struggle.

Just then, an unexpected voice interrupted her thoughts. " - I saw what happened," said Jamie, a classmate she barely knew. " - It's okay to say no," he continued, offering a reassuring smile. Tessa felt a spark of hope as Jamie shared his own experiences with peer pressure. His words gave her the strength to reclaim her voice and face the crowd once more.

With renewed courage, Tessa returned to the party, her resolve unshakeable. " - Thanks for understanding," she told Kevin firmly. " - I'm here to have fun, but I won't do anything I'm not comfortable with." Her words silenced the room, and slowly, her friends nodded in understanding. Tessa realized her 'no' was powerful enough, and justice was served through her assertiveness.
