In the bustling streets of a small city, Maria Sujinha, a sweet but grime-covered little girl, faces a challenge of acceptance. Refusing to take baths and play by herself, Maria finds herself isolated from other children. As she navigates her way through the maze of obstacles, Maria embarks on a journey of self-discovery to learn that tolerance and self-care can lead to friendships and joy.
Maria Sujinha was a 6-year-old girl who hated taking baths. She never washed her hair, never brushed her teeth, and was always dirty. Because of this, the children in the neighborhood didn’t want to play with her.
One day, Maria Sujinha felt very lonely and decided to go to the park. When she got there, she saw a group of children playing ball. Later, they were going to have a picnic! Maria Sujinha loved playing, but she was afraid to talk to the children. After thinking for a bit, she gathered the courage: — Hi, good morning! Can I play with you just today? I love picnics and playing ball! The children looked at her and said together: — No! You’re too dirty. To play with us, you have to take a bath!
Maria Sujinha became sad. — I don’t like taking baths… But I really want to play with you! A little boy pointed and said: — First, take a bath! You look like a little pig! With tears in her eyes, Maria Sujinha ran to the woods. There, she sat under a tree and began to cry… Suddenly, a light shone through the leaves. It was a little fairy, who flew over to Maria Sujinha and said: — Little girl, what happened? Why are you crying? Who made you so dirty?
Maria Sujinha wiped her tears and answered: — No one made me dirty… I don’t like taking baths. The children don’t want to play with me because I’m like this… so dirty… (buaááááá!) The fairy’s eyes widened: — You don’t take baths?! Maria Sujinha shook her head: — Noooo… I don’t like it!
The fairy smiled and said: — That needs to change! I will prepare a magical bath, and you’ll see how wonderful it is! The fairy took Maria Sujinha to her house. There, she prepared a bathtub full of fragrant foam and said: — Get in! It will be fun! Maria Sujinha made a face, but the fairy insisted. Finally, she stepped into the water... and guess what? The water turned all black with dirt! The fairy had to change the water more than 20 times!
Next, the fairy washed Maria Sujinha’s hair. So much dirt came out that even little creatures appeared! Lastly, she cleaned her nails and brushed her teeth. When she was done, Maria Sujinha was clean and smelled lovely! The fairy dressed her in a beautiful dress and gave her a doll with the same clothes. Maria Sujinha looked at herself in the mirror and couldn’t believe it: — Wow! Is that really me? I look so pretty! The fairy smiled and said: — Now you’re ready! Go play! Maria Sujinha returned to the park. The children were still playing ball. When the ball fell near her, a little boy went to get it and asked: — Hi, who are you? Do you want to play with us? Maria Sujinha was surprised: — You want to play with me? — Of course! — said the little boy. — What’s your name? — I’m Maria Sujinha! The boy laughed: — It can’t be! You’re clean! Maria Sujinha smiled: — That’s right. I took a bath! The children were happy and said: — If you stay clean like this, you can play with us every day! And that’s how Maria Sujinha became Maria Limpinha. From that day on, she never stopped taking baths again!
