Maxine loved her yellow boots. She wore them everywhere, especially in her backyard. One sunny day, she saw a big muddy puddle. Maxine wanted to jump across it. But the puddle was very wide. She wasn't sure if she could make it.
Maxine took a deep breath. She ran towards the puddle. - I can do it! she said. But she slipped and fell right in. Now, her boots were stuck in the mud.
Maxine tried to pull her boots out. - Oh no! she cried. The mud was too sticky. She felt tired and worried. Would she ever get to the other side?
Maxine sat down in the mud. - I give up, she sighed. She felt sad and a little scared. The puddle seemed too big now. Maybe she should just go back inside.
Just then, Maxine's mom appeared. - You can do it, Maxine! her mom encouraged. Maxine took a deep breath. She felt brave again. She thought of a new plan.
Maxine carefully pulled one boot, then the other. - I did it! she cheered. She hopped across the puddle. Her yellow boots splashed happily. Maxine felt proud and brave.
