In a towering tree of the ancient forest, young Nina the owl was determined to build her own nest. She had argued with her family and decided it was time to prove she could do it alone. Although her family was worried, Nina stubbornly flapped her wings and set off. She found a perfect spot high in the branches. But as nighttime approached, she realized something was missing.
Nina started gathering twigs and leaves, but balancing them was harder than she thought. The twigs kept slipping from her grasp. She huffed in frustration. - Why won't they stay put? she muttered to herself. Her wings ached from flying back and forth. The first night without a nest was cold and lonely.
The next morning, Nina tried again with renewed determination. She began weaving the twigs together as she'd seen her mother do. But a gust of wind scattered her work. - No! she cried, watching her hard work disappear. Then, the rain began to pour, soaking her feathers and making it impossible to continue. She felt defeated.
