The number part of their names stand out by highlight or color. Each of the children is a different color. On the cover is Momocto holding all 8 children at the end of her 8 tentacle arms. The adding and subtracting occur one transaction per page in order from 1-8 (starting with 8+1) with Section One being addition and the next section subtracting 1-8 (starting with 8-1). The items can be things like in the grocery store: 8 apples, 7 loaves of bread, 4 cartons of milk, etc. In the school, the items to count can be books, pencils, crayons, chairs, etc. In the playground the items can be what is in the parentheses after the 6 stations. 1 Whale, the mayor, Mr Right The grocery store is on Coral Corner and has 2 dolphin cashiers, In the cave next door lives a family of 3 crabs that have 3 seahorses they ride . The School is 8 rocks from their octopus cave. The great white sharks, Mr & Mrs.White are the bus drivers who take turns driving 4 rocks each to the school. The Starry family of starfish have 5 star children with 5 Stingray skateboards. The neighbors across the sand, the Speedy family of 6 turtles has a nice playground behind their cave. They have 6 stations to play at (swing set (shell seats), baseball diamond (eel bats), tennis court (nets for rackets), swimming pool (clown fish floats), horseshoes (horseshoe crabs), soccer field (hermit crab balls), The police department has 7 shark police officers with shell whistles. There are lots of things to add, subtract, and multiply in the playground, school, and neighborhood. Everyone’s hair is made of seawood, accessories are shells The addition is 8+1 through 8+8 The subtraction is 8-1 through 8-8
