Mia Mouse was a curious little mouse living in the bustling city of Cape Town. One sunny day, she decided to visit her friend on the other side of town. As Mia reached the edge of her neighborhood, she saw a busy highway blocking her path. The cars zoomed by so fast that Mia felt dizzy just watching them. She knew she had to find a way across. But how?

Mia noticed a pedestrian bridge but saw that it was very high and looked scary. She hesitated, wondering if it was safe. Just then, her friend Timmy Squirrel passed by. - Timmy, how do I cross this highway? Mia asked. - Try the bridge, it’s the safest way, Timmy replied. But Mia was too scared to climb the bridge.

Determined to find another way, Mia saw a gap in the traffic and attempted to run across the highway. But halfway through, a car honked loudly, and Mia froze in fear. She quickly scampered back to safety, her heart racing. - That was close! she muttered to herself. - I can’t just run across like that.

Feeling discouraged, Mia sat down on the curb. - Maybe I should just give up and go back home, she thought. She felt tears welling up in her eyes. - I’ll never make it across safely. Just then, an elderly tortoise named Mr. Tortoise walked by slowly.

Mr. Tortoise noticed Mia’s distress and stopped. - Why are you crying, little one? he asked. - I need to cross the highway, but I’m scared and don’t know how, Mia replied. - I can show you a safer way, said Mr. Tortoise. He led Mia to a nearby traffic light with a pedestrian crossing.

Mr. Tortoise explained how to use the pedestrian crossing. - Wait for the green light and then look both ways before crossing, he said. Mia followed his advice and safely crossed the highway. - Thank you, Mr. Tortoise! Mia exclaimed. She learned the importance of road safety and felt wiser and more confident.
