Sarah Speaks

Wisdom Pixar style

Sarah, a shy and non-verbal autistic girl, starts a new school and faces the challenge of making friends who understand her unique way of communicating. Through wisdom and understanding, her classmates learn to see beyond words and accept her for who she is.

Sarah was excited but nervous to start second grade in her new school. She was especially anxious because she didn't speak like the other kids. Her bright red hair and glasses made her stand out, but her silence was even more noticeable. The teacher introduced her to the class, "This is Sarah, and she communicates in her own special way." Sarah waved shyly, hoping to make new friends.

During recess, Sarah watched the other kids play from a distance. She wanted to join in but didn't know how to start. A group of curious students approached her. - Why don't you talk? one of them asked. Sarah lowered her eyes, unsure how to respond without words.

At lunch, Sarah sat alone, feeling a bit sad. The other kids whispered, unsure of how to include her. - Maybe she doesn't want to play with us, said a boy named Tom. Sarah wished they could understand her better.

The teacher noticed the confusion and decided to help. She gathered the class and explained, "Sarah has autism, which means she may not speak with words, but she communicates in other wonderful ways." The students listened carefully, realizing they had a lot to learn.

The next day, the teacher introduced a game where everyone had to communicate without speaking. Sarah's eyes lit up with excitement. - This is fun! a girl named Emily giggled as she tried to mime a cat. Sarah joined in, showing them how to mime a dog.

Emily decided to try something new and asked Sarah to draw with her. Sarah smiled and nodded, feeling grateful. - What should we draw? Emily asked with a big smile. Sarah started drawing a bright rainbow, and Emily followed her lead.

As the days passed, Sarah's classmates started to include her in their games more often. They learned to read her gestures and expressions. - Sarah, come play tag with us! shouted a boy named Jake. Sarah beamed and joined in, feeling like part of the group.

One day, Sarah felt overwhelmed and sat quietly under a tree. Her classmates noticed and decided to give her some space. - Let's wait until she's ready, Emily suggested kindly. Sarah appreciated their understanding and joined them soon after.

The teacher introduced a new friend, a class pet hamster named Nibbles. Everyone took turns caring for him, including Sarah. - Look, Nibbles likes you! Emily said as Sarah gently fed the hamster. Sarah felt proud and happy to have a new furry friend.

By the end of the school year, Sarah had made many friends. Her classmates learned that speaking wasn't the only way to communicate. - I'm glad you're my friend, Sarah, Emily said with a warm smile. Sarah nodded, her heart full of gratitude and joy.
