Shumail the Girl

Courage Watercolor style

A story about a young girl named Shumail in Lahore, who loves cakes but must find the courage to make healthier choices.

Shumail was a happy little girl who loved to eat cakes. Every day, she would ask her mom for a cake. But too many cakes made Shumail feel tired and sleepy. Her mom said, 'Shumail, you need to eat healthy foods to have energy to play!' Shumail didn't want to give up her cakes.

One day, Shumail wanted to go to the park, but she felt too tired. 'Why can't I play today, Mama?' she asked. 'You need to eat good food to have energy,' her mom replied. Shumail didn't understand. 'But I love cakes!' she said.

At the park, Shumail saw other kids running and playing. She tried to join them but felt too weak. 'Why can't I run like them?' she wondered. Her friends said, 'Come play with us, Shumail!' But she couldn't keep up and sat down on a bench.

Shumail felt very sad. 'I can't run and play like my friends,' she said. 'Maybe I should just stay home and eat cakes.' She thought about giving up playing in the park. 'I don't like feeling so tired,' she whispered to herself.

Just then, a wise old gardener saw Shumail. 'Why are you so sad?' he asked. 'I want to play, but I feel too tired,' she replied. 'You need to eat fruits and vegetables to have energy,' he said. Shumail listened carefully. 'Will that really help?' she asked.

Shumail decided to try the gardener's advice. She ate an apple and some carrots. The next day, she felt a bit stronger. 'I can do this!' she said. She ran to the park and played with her friends, feeling full of energy. 'Thank you, Mr. Gardener!' she shouted happily.
