Danny was so excited when his grandma gave him a puppy for his birthday. The puppy was an Australian Labradoodle with cute green eyes and tan spots. Danny named him Otto. But soon, Danny realized taking care of Otto was harder than he thought. Otto chewed on everything and made messes everywhere.
Danny wanted to play with Otto all day, but he also had to clean up after him. Otto chewed up Danny's favorite toy. Danny felt frustrated. He didn't know how to stop Otto from chewing things. It seemed like Otto would never learn.
One day, Otto made a huge mess in the kitchen. Danny tried to clean it up before his mom saw. He felt scared because he didn’t want to get in trouble. But the mess was too big, and he couldn't hide it. Danny felt like giving up.
- I don’t know what to do, Danny said to Otto. - I can't handle all of this. Danny sat down and started to cry. Otto licked his face, trying to cheer him up. - Maybe I should tell Mom the truth, Danny thought.
Danny decided to be honest with his mom. - Mom, I need to tell you something, Danny said. He explained all the trouble he was having with Otto. - It's okay, Danny, his mom said. - We can figure this out together. She showed Danny how to train Otto.
With his mom’s help, Danny started to train Otto. Otto learned to sit, stay, and not chew on things. Danny felt proud of Otto and himself. - We did it, Otto! Danny said, hugging his puppy. They were a team, and honesty made everything better.
