The Big Change By: Moses Oliver Davies, Jr.

Courage Vector style

Snake and Caterpillar are best friends who live in a beautiful grassy field. They are excited to meet new friends at the playground, but the children are scared of them. They think changing their appearance will help, but only Caterpillar's transformation is welcomed, leaving Snake puzzled and sad. With courage, Snake learns that true change comes from within.

Snake and Caterpillar were best friends. They lived happily in the tall grass behind the barn. One sunny day, they decided to make new friends. " - Let's go to the playground," Snake suggested. " - Yes, let's make new friends," Caterpillar agreed.

Excitedly, they slithered and crawled to the playground. But when they arrived, the children screamed. " - Why are they scared?" Snake asked. " - I don't know," Caterpillar replied, feeling sad. All the children ran away.

Snake and Caterpillar felt very sad. They just wanted to play. " - Maybe we need to change," Caterpillar suggested. " - Change how?" Snake wondered. They both thought about changing their looks.

The next day, Caterpillar wrapped herself in a cocoon. She worked very hard to change. " - I hope this works," she thought. Snake watched and decided to shed his old skin.

After a few days, Caterpillar emerged as a beautiful butterfly. " - Wow, you're so colorful!" Snake exclaimed. " - Thank you, Snake! It's your turn now," Butterfly encouraged. Snake was nervous but excited to show his new skin.

Together, they went back to the playground. Butterfly flew gracefully, and the children cheered. " - Look, a butterfly!" a child shouted with joy. Snake slithered happily behind. But the children still screamed and ran.

Snake felt very sad again. " - Why are they still scared?" he asked Butterfly. " - Maybe it's not just about changing looks," Butterfly replied. Snake felt hopeless. " - I tried so hard," Snake sighed.

Snake thought about giving up. " - Maybe I'll never have friends," he said. Butterfly felt sad for her friend. " - Don't give up, Snake," Butterfly encouraged. Snake felt alone and unsure.

That night, Snake had a dream. In the dream, a wise owl spoke to him. " - True change comes from the heart," the owl said. Snake woke up feeling different. " - Maybe I need to be myself," he thought.

Snake decided to try again. " - I'll show them who I really am," he said. Butterfly smiled. " - I'm here for you," she assured. Snake felt a little brave.

Snake and Butterfly went back to the playground once more. " - Hello! I’m Snake, and I want to be your friend," he called out. The children paused and listened. " - You seem nice," a child cautiously said.

Slowly, the children came closer. " - Can we play?" Snake asked kindly. A brave child stepped forward. " - Yes, let's play!" the child said. Snake felt happy inside.

Soon, everyone was playing together. Snake felt a warmth in his heart. " - Being myself is the best change," he realized. Butterfly danced joyfully. They all laughed and played until sunset.

Snake and Butterfly went back home, feeling happy and accepted. " - We did it," Snake said. " - You were brave," Butterfly replied. Snake knew that courage made the real change. They were true friends forever.
