The Brave Girl

Courage Watercolor style

In the heart of a bustling farm in India, young Jane faces a stormy night and a stubborn horse. With courage and kindness, she learns to communicate with the horse to bring it to safety.

Jane loved living on her family's farm in India. The air was fresh, and the animals were her friends. But one stormy night, Jane's father shouted over the thunder. "Jane, we need to get the horses in!" The horses were scared. All went in except for Thunder, the biggest horse.

Jane ran to Thunder. "Come on, Thunder! It's safe inside!" But Thunder just neighed loudly and stayed put. Jane felt a little scared herself. "Why won't you go in, Thunder?" she wondered. The rain was getting heavier.

Jane tried everything she could think of. She tried pulling Thunder gently. "Please, Thunder, it's getting wetter!" But Thunder stomped his foot. Then she offered him a carrot, but he just sniffed and looked away. "What else can I do?" Jane sighed.

Jane sat down in the mud, feeling defeated. "I can't do it," she whispered. The storm was loud and scary. She thought of giving up and going inside. The barn was so far away. "Maybe Thunder just doesn't want to listen to me," Jane said softly.

Suddenly, Jane remembered something her dad always said. "Horses are like people, they need to be understood." She stood up and looked at Thunder. "What do you need, Thunder?" she asked. To her surprise, Thunder neighed softly. "I just need to know it's safe," he seemed to say.

Jane smiled brightly. "I promise it is safe, Thunder!" she said gently. Thunder nodded his big head and finally moved towards the barn. "We did it!" Jane laughed as they reached the stalls. Her dad was so proud. "You're a brave girl, Jane," he said.
