The Journey of Little Tadpoles By Moses Oliver Davies, Jr.

Courage Watercolor style

In a once-lush pond now facing a drought, little tadpoles and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frog, struggle to find enough water to survive. As the pond dries up, the tadpoles must discover their courage and work together to bring rain back to their home.

In a vibrant pond, Mr. and Mrs. Frog lived happily among tall grasses and singing dragonflies. Their home was visited by birds and butterflies, bringing joy to everyone. One day, the pond began to dry up under the scorching sun, leaving the tadpoles worried. " - What can we do, Mother?" asked one little tadpole. - "We must find a way to bring the rain back," replied Mrs. Frog.

The tadpoles huddled together, feeling scared as the water disappeared more each day. " - We have to be brave," said a tadpole. " - But how?" another asked. With determination, they decided to search for a solution to save their pond. " - Let's try to ask the wise old turtle for advice," suggested a tadpole.

The tadpoles made their way to the wise old turtle, who lived on the pond's edge. " - Please help us save our pond," they pleaded. The turtle listened carefully and nodded. " - You must find the Rain Cloud," he advised. " - But where is it?" the tadpoles asked, feeling both hopeful and anxious.

The tadpoles set off on their journey to find the Rain Cloud, feeling nervous but determined. They swam through the remaining water, dodging rocks and debris. " - Look! There is the mountain where the Rain Cloud rests," said a tadpole excitedly. " - It's so far away," another tadpole sighed. " - We can do it if we stick together," encouraged another.

As they continued, the tadpoles faced strong currents that pushed them back. " - We can't give up!" cried a tadpole, struggling against the water. " - Keep swimming!" shouted another. The tadpoles pushed forward, their tiny bodies fighting the rushing water. " - We have to be brave," whispered a tadpole to itself.

Just as hope seemed lost, a kind bird swooped down to offer help. " - I'll guide you to the mountain," the bird chirped. The tadpoles climbed onto the bird's back, feeling relieved. " - Thank you!" they chorused. " - Hold on tight," said the bird as it soared into the sky.

The bird flew them high above the trees, giving the tadpoles a new perspective. " - Look at all the land below!" exclaimed a tadpole. " - It's beautiful," another agreed. As the mountain grew closer, they felt a surge of courage. " - We can do this," they said together.

At the mountain's base, the bird landed gently, and the tadpoles thanked their friend. " - We're on our own now," said a tadpole. " - Let's find the Rain Cloud," another added bravely. They began their ascent, feeling hopeful yet nervous. " - Together," they said, climbing the mountain with determination.

The mountain was steep, and the tadpoles had to work together to climb. " - Help me up!" one called to another. " - I've got you!" came the reply. They pushed and pulled each other, overcoming obstacles. " - We can do this," they encouraged one another. The summit seemed closer with each step.

Finally, the tadpoles reached the top and saw the Rain Cloud resting above them. " - It's beautiful," whispered a tadpole in awe. " - How do we ask it for rain?" another wondered. They gathered their courage and began to sing a song of their pond. " - Please bring rain," they sang, voices strong and united.

For a moment, the Rain Cloud listened silently, then began to rumble and glow. " - It's working!" a tadpole shouted with joy. " - Keep singing!" another urged. With renewed hope, the tadpoles sang louder, their hearts filled with courage. " - Thank you, Rain Cloud," they chorused as raindrops began to fall.

The rain poured down the mountain, filling the streams and flowing back to their pond. " - We're saved!" cried a tadpole with happiness. " - Our home is safe again," another rejoiced. They rode the rainwater back down the mountain, feeling triumphant. " - We did it," they cheered, splashing through the fresh water.

Back at the pond, Mr. and Mrs. Frog greeted their little heroes with open arms. " - We're so proud of you," said Mr. Frog, beaming. " - You were so brave," added Mrs. Frog, hugging them tightly. The pond was full once more, and all the animals celebrated. " - Thank you, Rain Cloud," they all sang together.

In the days that followed, the tadpoles grew into strong young frogs, full of courage and wisdom. " - We learned to be brave," said one. " - And to never give up," added another. The pond thrived, and so did its inhabitants. Together, they promised to always protect their home. " - We're a family," they all agreed happily.
