Allison was excited for the Halloween festival, especially the pumpkin contest. The biggest, brightest pumpkin in town was always on display. But this year, something terrible happened. The Great Pumpkin was missing! Without it, the festival would be ruined.

Who could have taken it? Allison wondered. She decided to investigate. Armed with her flashlight and a notebook, she started searching for clues. Her best friend, Max, joined her.

Their first clue was a set of glowing footprints. They followed them to the edge of the forest. But the footprints suddenly disappeared. Allison felt a bit scared.

Maybe we should turn back, Max suggested. No way! We have to find the Great Pumpkin, Allison insisted. They continued into the forest, even though it was getting darker.

Inside the forest, they encountered a sneaky scarecrow. Did you see anyone take the Great Pumpkin? Allison asked. Maybe, maybe not, the scarecrow replied mysteriously. They weren't sure if they could trust him.

Leaving the scarecrow, they spotted a couple of mischievous squirrels. Have you seen the Great Pumpkin? Max asked. The squirrels chattered and pointed deeper into the forest. They decided to follow their lead.

As they went deeper, they found a mysterious riddle carved into a tree. What does it mean? Allison wondered aloud. Max tried to decipher it, but it was tricky. They realized it was another clue.

The riddle led them to an old, abandoned cabin. This place looks creepy, Max said nervously. We've come this far, we can't give up now, Allison replied. They pushed open the creaky door and stepped inside.

Inside the cabin, they found a map with an 'X' marking a spot. This must be it! Allison exclaimed. But the map was torn. They needed the other half to find the exact location.

Feeling frustrated, they almost gave up. We'll never find it, Max sighed. We can't quit now. Let's retrace our steps, Allison suggested. They left the cabin and started searching again.

After hours of searching, they were exhausted. Maybe the Great Pumpkin is gone forever, Allison said sadly. She sat down on a log, feeling defeated. Max sat beside her, silent.

Just then, they heard a rustling sound. Did you hear that? Max whispered. They followed the sound and found the other half of the map stuck in a bush. We did it! Allison shouted.

With the complete map, they found the marked spot. It's here somewhere, Allison said. They dug around and found a hidden trapdoor. This must be it! Max exclaimed.

They opened the trapdoor and climbed down into a secret underground room. There, they found the Great Pumpkin! We found it! Allison cheered. They carefully lifted the pumpkin out.

They carried the Great Pumpkin back to the pumpkin patch. The townspeople cheered when they saw it. You did it! they exclaimed. Allison and Max felt proud and happy.

At the Halloween festival, the Great Pumpkin was the star of the show. We couldn't have done it without you, Allison said to Max. They both smiled, knowing they had solved the mystery together.
