The Tale of Keloğlan
A clever young boy named Keloğlan finds a single chickpea and spins a tale to gain wealth and status. Along his journey, he faces numerous obstacles and must use his wits to overcome them. Will Keloğlan's cleverness be enough to solve his problems and achieve his dreams?
Once upon a time, in a small village, lived a clever boy named Keloğlan. He lived with his mother and they were very poor. One day, while playing in the garbage dump, Keloğlan found a single chickpea. He thought to himself, 'This chickpea could change our lives!' He decided to create a story to gain wealth using this chickpea.
Keloğlan went to the house of a wealthy man and knocked on the door. The rich man opened the door and asked, - What do you want? Keloğlan told a story about losing five hundred camel loads of chickpeas to robbers on his way to Aleppo. The rich man believed his story and invited him inside. He gave Keloğlan new clothes and a place to stay.
After a few days, Keloğlan asked the rich man for a horse to continue his journey. The rich man, moved by Keloğlan's story, gave him a horse. Keloğlan set off for Aleppo, hoping his plan would work. As he reached Aleppo, he began telling merchants about his supposed five hundred camel loads of chickpeas. The merchants believed him and gave him money in advance.
The governor of Aleppo heard about Keloğlan's wealth and invited him to dinner. Keloğlan accepted the invitation and decided to impress the governor. - Distribute this money to the Governor’s servants, he told his own servant, handing him twenty liras. The governor was impressed and offered his daughter's hand in marriage to Keloğlan. They were married with a grand celebration lasting forty days and forty nights.
Soon after, Keloğlan's fortunes began to change. His wife's request for five liras to go to the bathhouse went unanswered by the merchants. Keloğlan felt desperate and considered giving up. - I can't solve this problem, he said to himself. They were so poor they had to cut down the big tree inside their house for firewood.
While cutting the tree, gold started to flow from it. Keloğlan couldn't believe his eyes and hit the wall with a stick. The governor heard the noise and rushed over. - What’s going on? the governor asked. Keloğlan explained, - They sold my chickpeas and brought me gold in return. They collected the gold, and Keloğlan opened a store, becoming wealthy. He took out the single chickpea and said, - This chickpea made me rich, and ate it.
