Vasili searched his bookshelf, under his bed, and even in his backpack, but the book was nowhere to be found. He felt a bit discouraged. He remembered his mom saying, "If you can't find something, retrace your steps." Vasili decided to visit the library to see if he had left it there. But when he got there, the librarian said she hadn't seen it either.
Vasili decided to ask his friends if they had seen his book. His friend Mia said, "Maybe you left it at the park when we played there last week." Excited, Vasili rushed to the park, but after searching high and low, he still couldn't find it. "This is harder than I thought," Vasili sighed, sitting down on a bench.
Feeling defeated, Vasili thought about giving up. "Maybe I'm just not meant to enter the contest this year," he said sadly to himself. But deep down, he didn't want to quit. He remembered how much he loved solving puzzles and how important the contest was to him. Vasili decided to think of another way to find the book.
