In a sprawling green pasture, Whisper the wild horse roamed with curiosity. Whisper was a horse with a lot to say, but it seemed the humans didn't like to listen. "I don’t use words like you do, but I talk all the time!" She would say when the children came to visit. "My ears, eyes, and tail are my words. Do you want to learn my language? It’s easy if you pay close attention.”
Whisper trotted over to the sheep who were grazing nearby. She tried to join their conversation by softly neighing. - What are you trying to say? a sheep asked, tilting its head. Feeling embarrassed, Whisper backed away, her tail swishing nervously. Whisper tried to listen, but everything just sounded like baa and bleat. Whisper felt frustrated and more alone than ever.
Determined to find a way to communicate, Whisper approached the pond where the ducks were swimming. She watched their playful quacks and splashes. Whisper tried to mimic their sounds, but only managed a confused neigh. - What a funny sound you're making! a duck quacked, giggling. Whisper's ears drooped as she realized she still couldn't make herself understood.
Feeling defeated, Whisper lay down under the shade of a big oak tree. - Maybe I'm just not meant to have friends, she sighed. Just then, an old owl perched above her, watching with wise eyes. - Why do you look so sad, young one? the owl asked gently. Whisper explained her troubles, thinking no one could help her.
