Jaymon was an 8-year-old boy with brown skin and black hair who lived in Byron, Georgia. One evening, he heard a scary rumor about a hidden treasure deep in the dark forest nearby. Everyone said that only the bravest could find it. Jaymon, being nervous by nature, wasn't sure he was up to the task. But something inside him knew he had to try.
Jaymon packed his backpack and set off into the woods, but the deeper he went, the darker it got. Strange sounds echoed around him, making him jump with every step. He clutched his backpack tightly, thinking about turning back. But then he remembered the treasure and took a deep breath. He had to keep going.
After walking for a while, Jaymon came across a roaring river with no bridge in sight. The water was too strong to swim across. He looked around and spotted some large stones that might help him cross.
- How am I going to get across? Jaymon wondered aloud. He tried to hop from stone to stone, but they were slippery. He nearly fell into the water several times. Finally, he made it to the other side, but he was soaking wet and tired.
As Jaymon continued, he found the path blocked by thick, thorny bushes. He tried to push through, but the thorns scratched his arms and legs. He sat down, feeling defeated.
- This is impossible, Jaymon said to himself. He was about to turn back when he noticed a small, narrow path to the side. It was hidden but looked like it might go around the bushes. With renewed hope, he decided to try it.
The narrow path led Jaymon to a dark cave. He could hear strange noises coming from within. He hesitated at the entrance, feeling his heart race. What if there were monsters inside?
- I can't do this, Jaymon thought. But then he remembered the treasure and took a deep breath. He stepped into the cave, his flashlight barely piercing the darkness.
Inside the cave, Jaymon stumbled over rocks and almost fell several times. The strange noises grew louder, and he shivered with fear. But he kept moving forward, determined to find the treasure.
Suddenly, Jaymon saw a glimmer of light ahead. He hurried towards it and found himself in a beautiful underground chamber. In the center of the chamber was a chest, glittering with jewels.
Jaymon reached for the chest, but it was surrounded by a circle of fire. He tried to think of a way to get past it, but every idea seemed impossible. He sat down, feeling like he had failed.
- Maybe I should just go home, Jaymon thought. But then he remembered all the obstacles he had already overcome. He couldn't give up now. He stood up, determined to find a way.
Just then, an old woman appeared in the chamber. - Who are you? Jaymon asked, startled. - I am the guardian of the treasure, she replied. - You have shown great courage to come this far. The fire will disappear if you believe in yourself.
Jaymon took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He thought about all the courage it took to get here. When he opened his eyes, the fire was gone. He walked up to the chest and opened it.
