Annir woke up with a big smile on his face. Today was his fourth birthday! He ran to his mom and dad to remind them. Annir was so excited he could hardly wait for the cake. But then he noticed something strange.

There were only three candles on his birthday cake. Annir's smile turned into a frown. He thought, 'Without the fourth candle, I won't be four!' Annir's mom and dad tried to comfort him. But Annir was still worried.

- Where's the fourth candle? Annir asked. - We'll find it, don't worry, said Dad. Annir searched high and low around the house. But there was no fourth candle to be found. He felt even more worried.

Annir checked the kitchen and the living room. He even looked under his bed. But there was no candle. - Maybe it's in the attic! Annir thought. But the attic was empty too.

Annir began to feel hopeless. - I'll never turn four, he sighed. His mom hugged him tight. - We'll think of something, she said. Annir's dad scratched his head, trying to come up with an idea.

Annir's dad had an idea. - We'll make a new candle! Annir's eyes lit up. They tried using clay, but it didn't work. They tried using straws, but they melted. Nothing seemed to work.

Annir felt like giving up. - Maybe I'll just stay three forever, he said sadly. His parents looked at each other worriedly. - Don't give up, Annir, said Mom. - We will find a way, said Dad.

Then Annir had a brilliant idea. - What if we cut the candles in half? he suggested. His parents looked at each other, amazed. - That might just work! said Mom. - Let's try it! said Dad.

They carefully cut the candles in half. Now they had six smaller candles. They placed them on the cake. - We did it! said Annir. - You're so smart, said Mom.

Annir's mom lit the candles. They sang 'Happy Birthday.' Annir blew out the candles with a big smile. - I'm four now! he cheered. Annir felt like the biggest, wisest boy in the world.
