Aprendendo a Sorrir

Tolerance

In São Paulo, a curious girl named Sam faces a big challenge: learning to smile despite differences and misunderstandings. With the help of her new friend, she embarks on a journey of tolerance and friendship.

Sam, an 8-year-old girl with a curious mind, had just moved to São Paulo. She was excited but also nervous about making new friends. One day, she met a boy named Lucas at the playground. Lucas didn't smile much, which made Sam wonder why. She decided to find out.

Sam tried to talk to Lucas, but he seemed distant. Lucas didn’t join the other kids in their games. Sam felt frustrated because she wanted to be his friend. She wondered if she had done something wrong. This was her first obstacle in understanding Lucas.

Sam didn’t give up. She asked other kids about Lucas, but no one seemed to know why he was distant. She even tried sharing her toys, but Lucas still didn’t smile. Sam felt like she was failing. She started to think that maybe Lucas just didn’t want to be friends with her.

Sam felt sad and almost gave up. She thought, 'Maybe I’ll never understand Lucas.' Just as she was about to walk away, her mom noticed her sadness. Sam told her mom about Lucas and how she couldn’t make him smile. Her mom gave her a warm hug and listened carefully.

- Sometimes people have reasons we don’t know about for acting the way they do, said her mom. - Maybe Lucas has something on his mind. You should be patient and kind. Sam realized that she had to be more understanding. She decided to try one last time, but this time with more patience.

The next day, Sam found Lucas sitting alone. She sat beside him and said, - Hi Lucas, I’m here if you want to talk. Lucas looked at her and finally smiled a little. - Thanks, Sam. I’ve been feeling lonely since I moved here. Sam smiled back, knowing she had finally found a way to understand Lucas.
