Augie Armadillo lived in Sleepy Shallow. He loved to dance and play the cello. But he wanted more. One day, he decided to go to Rome to become a famous dancer. Augie packed his top hat and walking stick.
Augie told his friends Big Boar and Wee Pig about his plan. They were excited but worried. Rome was far away! Augie said, - I have to try! Big Boar and Wee Pig decided to join him.
They found a cargo ship heading to Rome. Augie was nervous. - What if they catch us? Wee Pig asked. - We can do it! Augie replied. They sneaked aboard the ship.
The ship started to move. Augie, Big Boar, and Wee Pig hid behind some barrels. - I'm scared, Wee Pig whispered. - Stay close, Augie said. They heard footsteps approaching.
A sailor came near. - Who's there? he called out. The friends held their breath. The sailor walked away. - That was close, Big Boar said. They relaxed a little.
Days passed on the ship. They were running out of food. - I'm so hungry, Wee Pig said. Augie shared his last crumbs. They needed to find more food.
Augie decided to explore the ship. He found the kitchen but it was locked. - How will we get in? Big Boar asked. - I'll think of something, Augie said. He saw an open window.
Augie climbed through the window. He found some bread and apples. - I did it! Augie whispered. He passed the food to his friends. They ate happily.
The ship finally reached Rome. - We made it! Augie cheered. They stepped onto the dock. - Now what? Wee Pig asked. - We find the dance school, Augie said.
They wandered through the city. Rome was big and busy. Augie felt small. - This place is huge! Big Boar said. - We have to keep going, Augie encouraged.
They asked for directions but no one understood them. - How will we find it? Wee Pig asked. - We won't give up, Augie said. They kept looking.
Days went by without luck. Augie felt tired. - Maybe we should go home, he sighed. - No! We can do it! Big Boar said. Augie nodded slowly.
Just then, a Wise Old Bird flew down. - I know where the dance school is, he said. - Will you help us? Augie asked. - Follow me, the bird replied.
The Wise Old Bird led them through narrow streets. They reached a big building. - This is it! the bird said. Augie felt his heart race.
- Welcome, a teacher greeted. Augie showed his dancing. - You are talented! the teacher praised. Augie felt proud. He found his courage.
