Berta tried to hide the broken pieces under the couch. She thought her mom wouldn’t notice. But the pieces were sharp and shiny. Berta’s mom would surely find out. Berta felt very nervous.
Berta went to the kitchen to get glue. She wanted to fix the vase herself. But the glue was too sticky. It got all over her fingers. Berta was getting frustrated.
Berta tried to put the pieces together, but they wouldn’t stick. She began to cry. - I can’t do it! Berta said. She thought about giving up and running away.
Just then, her big brother Henrik walked in. - What happened, Berta? he asked. - I broke Mom’s vase, Berta said, sobbing. Henrik hugged her. - Let's tell Mom the truth and clean up together, he said.
Berta and Henrik told their mom what happened. - I’m sorry, Mom, Berta said. Her mom smiled and hugged her. - Thank you for being honest, she said. They all cleaned up the mess together, feeling happy.
