O Menino Gato

Honesty Pixar style

The story of Xulabias, a clever boy from Brazil, who turns into a cat and must learn the importance of honesty to change back.

Xulabias was a smart 9-year-old with a red cap who lived in a bustling town in Brazil. One day, he found an ancient, dusty book in the attic. As he read aloud from it, he suddenly turned into a cat! Now, he had to figure out how to become human again. But there was a twist: only by being completely honest could he find the way back.

Xulabias, now a cat, realized he couldn't talk to his family. He tried to tell his older sister, Ana, about his problem by pawing at the book. Ana laughed, thinking he just wanted to play. Frustrated, Xulabias knocked over a vase, hoping to get her attention. But instead, Ana scolded him. He realized he needed a new plan.

Xulabias decided to find the old woman who lived at the edge of the forest. He'd heard she knew about magic. But as a cat, the forest seemed much bigger and scarier. Shadows loomed, and strange noises came from the trees. Still, he pressed on, determined to solve his problem.

Finally, Xulabias reached the old woman's cottage. He meowed loudly, scratching at the door. The old woman opened it and smiled down at him. - What brings you here, little one? she asked. Xulabias meowed desperately, nudging the magic book with his nose.

The old woman knelt down and picked up the book. - Ah, you've been meddling with magic, haven't you? she chuckled. Xulabias nodded, trying to communicate. - The only way back is through honesty, she explained. But Xulabias didn't understand how honesty could help him now.

Back home, Xulabias tried to be honest about everything. He meowed loudly whenever his sister fibbed to their parents. But Ana just shooed him away, annoyed. Xulabias felt hopeless, unsure of how to make honesty work for him. He was still a cat, and nothing seemed to be changing.

One rainy afternoon, Xulabias overheard Ana boasting about winning a race she hadn't run. - That's not true! he meowed, almost instinctively. Ana blinked, realizing her mistake. She confessed the truth to their parents, feeling guilty. Xulabias watched, hoping this was a step forward.

Despite his efforts, Xulabias remained a cat. He felt like giving up. - Maybe I'll be a cat forever, he sighed to himself. He curled up in his bed, feeling defeated. How could he ever be honest enough to change back?

That night, the old woman appeared in his dreams. - You must be honest with yourself too, she said softly. Xulabias awoke with a start, realizing he needed to admit something he'd been hiding. He meowed at Ana, hoping she'd understand.

He nudged Ana, leading her to his secret hiding spot under the bed. There lay a broken toy he'd accidentally broken and hid. - I'm sorry, Ana, he meowed, feeling the weight lift from his heart. Ana smiled, understanding. In that moment, Xulabias became a boy again, learning the power of honesty.
