Bernice, a young and kind-hearted ballerina, faces a rainy day that threatens to spoil her plans. Frustrated and unsure of what to do, she embarks on a whimsical journey of imagination, overcoming obstacles and discovering the power of courage through dance.
Bernice’s day started like every other day. Breakfast was done and it was time to play. But today, something was different. Bernice wanted to be a ballerina and dance in the sun. She felt a little nervous because she had never danced alone before.
She looked outside and the sky was grey. She wouldn’t be playing outside today. - "Oh no," Bernice sighed. "How can I dance with my friends if it's rainy all day?" She felt sad as she watched the raindrops tap on the window.
Bernice imagined dancing with her friends in the sunshine. But the rain kept falling, and she stayed inside. - "I wish I could dance outside," she whispered to her teddy bear. Her first obstacle was the weather, keeping her from her dreams.
She didn’t want to draw or play with her blocks. She didn’t want to write on the chalkboard with chalk. - "What should I do now?" Bernice wondered aloud. Nothing seemed fun without dancing.
She didn’t want to play with her bear or her doll. She didn’t want to play with her red bouncy ball. - "Everything feels boring today," she told her doll. Bernice felt stuck, with no way to dance.
She thought about painting or working on puzzles, Maybe playing the drums or blowing some bubbles. - "But it's not the same as dancing," she sighed. How could she have fun without her ballet?
Then Bernice said, “I know what I’ll do today. I’ll be a ballerina and dance in a ballet!” Her eyes lit up with excitement. - "I can dance right here, in my own room!" she exclaimed.
She went to the closet in her toy room. She opened the door and found her costume. - "This is perfect!" she giggled, holding up her tutu. Her spirits lifted as she prepared to dance.
She put on her tights and laced up her shoes. Then finally stepped into her fancy tutu. - "I feel like a real ballerina now," she said with a giggle. She twirled around, feeling ready to dance.
The tutu was frilly and the prettiest of pink. She started to dance and then when she blinked… - "Wow, I'm on a stage!" Bernice whispered in awe. Her imagination had taken her to a magical place.
She could hardly believe it as she looked around. She was out on a stage with bright lights shining down. - "This is amazing!" she thought, feeling a rush of joy and courage.
She was wearing a crown and her hair was all curled. As the music played on she danced and she twirled. - "I'm a princess ballerina!" she giggled, feeling brave and beautiful.
Leaping and jumping, swaying and spinning, She was so happy. She could not stop grinning! - "This is the best day ever!" thought Bernice. Her courage had brought her dream to life.
Then the music changed and she looked to her right. More girls came on stage. They were all dressed in white. - "Let's dance together!" Bernice called out, feeling excited to share her stage.
They all danced together, doing the same moves, on their tippy toes in their ballerina shoes. - "We're a wonderful team!" Bernice said with a laugh.
The theatre was full. There were no empty seats. When the music stopped, the audience got to their feet. - "Hooray!" Bernice cheered. She had danced with courage and made her dream come true.
