In a small town in Massachusetts, a brave little girl named Brooke faces the challenge of making friends in a diverse classroom. Despite feeling different and struggling with obstacles, Brooke embarks on a journey of courage. Will she succeed in finding her place and making new friends?
Brooke was excited to start school in the small town of Massachusetts. But as she walked into her new classroom, she noticed something different. There were students who looked and learned differently from her. They were all together in an inclusion classroom. Brooke felt a bit nervous and wondered, "How will I make friends here?"
On the first day, Brooke tried to join a group playing with blocks. But she was too shy to speak up. The other kids didn't notice her, and she felt left out. "I wish I could play with them," Brooke thought sadly. She decided to try again tomorrow.
The next day, Brooke saw a classmate struggling to tie her shoes. She wanted to help but didn't know how. "What if I mess up?" Brooke worried. Then, during art time, she accidentally spilled paint everywhere. "Oh no! What should I do?" she fretted, feeling embarrassed.
Feeling discouraged, Brooke sat on the swings during recess. She watched the other kids play and thought, "Maybe I'll never fit in." She felt like giving up on making friends. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away.
Just then, a teacher named Mr. Lucas came over. "Why the sad face, Brooke?" he asked kindly. Brooke shared her worries. "You know," Mr. Lucas said, "everyone feels different sometimes. Being brave means trying again." Brooke realized she had to be courageous and try talking to her classmates again.
The next day, Brooke saw the same classmate struggling with her shoes. "I can help," Brooke offered with a smile. Her classmate beamed, and they became friends. Brooke felt proud of her courage. She realized that being brave helped her fit in after all.
