Page 24 [Illustration: Max with many friends, looking happy and confident] Max didn't need a cape to be special. He just needed to be himself—and that was the greatest magic of all. THE END

Max loved his colorful capes. He wore them everywhere, especially to kindergarten. But Max had a big problem. He was scared to speak up in class. " - I want to be brave," Max whispered to his cape.

One day, Max's teacher announced a show-and-tell. Max wanted to share his favorite toy, but he was too shy. " - What if everyone laughs?" Max worried as he tugged on his cape.

The first cape Max tried was red. It was meant to make him strong like a superhero. But when he put it on, he still felt small. " - Why isn't it working?" he wondered aloud.

Max decided to try the blue cape next. It was supposed to make him feel calm and brave. But when he walked into class, he tripped and fell. " - Oh no!" he exclaimed, embarrassed.

The green cape was Max’s last hope. It was meant to give him the courage to try new things. But when he stood up to speak, he forgot his words. " - I can't do it," he thought, feeling defeated.

Max decided he would never speak in class again. " - Maybe I'm just not brave," he sighed, folding his capes away. He felt like his capes had let him down.

That evening, Max's mom found him sulking. " - Why so glum, chum?" she asked. Max explained his cape troubles. " - Maybe courage comes from inside, not a cape," she suggested.

The next day, Max wore his favorite cape, though he felt unsure. His mom's words echoed in his mind. " - I can do it," he told himself quietly.

At show-and-tell, Max took a deep breath. " - This is my favorite toy," he began, feeling courage build inside. His classmates listened intently.

Max realized he didn't need the capes to be brave. " - I did it!" he cheered. From that day on, Max knew courage was always inside him.
