In 1942 Amsterdam, Sam, a curious 10-year-old with short brown curly hair, discovered a hidden diary in his attic. The diary belonged to a girl named Anne Frank. Sam knew he had to learn more about her and why she hid. But with the war raging, it wasn't going to be easy. Sam felt a strange sense of urgency to solve this mystery.
Sam's first obstacle came when he tried to talk to his parents about the diary. They were too busy with the war effort and told him to stay out of trouble. Sam felt alone and frustrated. He knew he had to find another way to learn about Anne Frank.
Undeterred, Sam decided to visit the library. But when he got there, the librarian told him that many books were removed because of the war. Sam felt his heart sink. He wondered if he would ever uncover Anne's story. He felt like giving up but decided to keep trying.
