Maple moved in with Sophie under the berry tree, and they became good friends. They shared everything, but Maple still seemed a little sad. One day, Maple said, - I wish I could find something special to do just for us. Sophie nodded, - Maybe we can find something together! They decided to look for more berries.
While Sophie took care of their home, Maple went out every day to pick berries. One day, she met a friendly fox by the river. - Hello! the fox said, - Would you like to try these red berries? Maple tried them and found them delicious. She returned home late, and Sophie was worried.
Sophie noticed Maple returning home later each day. - Where have you been? Sophie asked, feeling a bit left out. Maple smiled and said, - Just exploring. They both felt a little sad and unsure. Sophie missed their times together under the berry tree.
One morning, Sophie decided to follow Maple to see where she went. She was heartbroken to see Maple chatting happily with the fox. Sophie ran back home, feeling upset and alone. She accidentally stepped into a hunter's trap and got stuck. - Help! she cried out, scared and alone.
Maple came home and couldn't find Sophie anywhere. - Sophie! Where are you? she called out, worried. She heard Sophie's cries and hurried to find her trapped in the hunter's trap. - I'll get help! Maple exclaimed, but Sophie shook her head, - Not from the fox!
Sophie revealed her feelings to Maple, explaining why she felt left out. - Just because the fox showed me red berries, doesn't mean pink berries aren't still my favorite, Maple explained gently. Sophie realized Maple didn't love her any less. They hugged, and Maple went to get the fox for help.
The fox quickly came to help, setting Sophie free from the trap. - Thank you! Sophie said, finally smiling. They all worked together to build a new home with a berry tree that had both pink and red berries. Sophie learned that friendship and charity made everything better. They lived happily ever after.
